Fast ice has formed in the Anadyr Estuary near Anadyr, but a warm cyclone brought milder air and stronger winds, slowing ice growth and reopening a polynya in the central estuary. Hydrologists say the ice is still thin and unsafe, and thickness measurements will not start until at least January 10.
