A lightning-caused wildfire (2026WB004) in Wood Buffalo National Park near the Whooping Crane nesting area has grown to about 10,757 hectares and is classified as out of control, with smoke visible from nearby communities. Officials say there is currently no threat to communities or infrastructure, and suppression is being led by Parks Canada with support from the GNWT.
