Location: Global - Tropical
Description: Mangroves are coastal, salt-tolerant trees that are integral components of tropical coastlines throughout the world, providing a broad range of ecosystem services and other benefits. Some estimates are that about 67% of the world's mangroves have been lost. Some restoration projects are underway, but many areas are still being lost.
Observing Protocols: Observers are asked to share observations of changes in Mangrove habitat locally, including both degradation and restoration. Memory-based historical observations are welcome, but photographic comparisons and quantitative data or estimates of change preferred.
Inputs: LEO Network Observations
Outputs: LEO Network observations will be added to the project map.
Project Updates: Occasional updates on LEO Webinars or as requested by mangrove-related projects.
