Now, for the first time, researchers have concrete evidence that northern pike could use the ocean to move between freshwater Alaska habitats.

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game is planning to apply the fish-killing chemical rotenone to eight lakes in the Tote Road area south of Soldotna next week.

Restrictions exist for East and West Mackey, Sevena, Union, Derks and Stormy lakes in 2022

Just over a year ago, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game applied the pesticide rotenone to two lakes and a stream in the remote Miller Creek drainage on the northern Kenai Peninsula to eradicate the last known population of invasive northern pike on the Kenai Peninsula.
