'Whole hell of a lot of water up there': This map shows the Sierra snowpack's record levels

A map shows that the Sierra snowpack in California has reached record levels, surpassing the previous record set in the winter of 1982-83. The recent snowfall has added to the snowpack, which has absorbed more water than it has melted. While the deep snowpack should resist the moderately strong storm set to hit California, there is a risk of flooding later in the spring if the snowpack melts rapidly due to warm storms or a heat wave. The San Joaquin Valley and Sierra east slope watersheds that drain into the Great Basin and Nevada could be particularly affected.
