Snow fell in the Sierra Nevada mountain range on the last day of summer, an unusual occurrence as it usually doesn't snow there for another month. Some areas received several inches of snow, leading to plows being called out to clear roads. The snow and hail contributed to a 16-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 near Cisco Grove, California, in which one man was killed and others were treated for minor injuries. The preview of winter is not expected to stick around, but it has excited skiers and resorts about the upcoming season. Last winter was good to resort areas after years of drought.
