Parts of Eskifjörður Also To Be Evacuated Due To Risk of Mudslides

Parts of the town of Eskifjörður in East Iceland are being evacuated due to the risk of landslides caused by fissures in the mountainsides above the town growing wider. The Iceland Meteorological Office has requested that areas directly underneath the widening fissures be evacuated. Meanwhile, the town of Seyðisfjörður, which has been hit by devastating landslides after a week of extreme rainfall, is also being evacuated. Residents will be taken by bus to nearby Egilsstaðir. The National Police Commissioner has raised the level of alert for both towns.
