Backyard flock in Wake County tests positive for HPAI

Raleigh, North Carolina, United States

A backyard chicken flock in Wake County has tested positive for High Path Avian Influenza (HPAI). The positive sample was identified by the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Veterinary Diagnostic Lab in Raleigh.

Comment from Cindy Simpson:

Black (Coragyps atratus) and/or Turkey Vultures (Cathartes aura) were also infected and died from HPAI on this property. Wildlife biologists with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission have observed other locations where vultures have died from HPAI, most recently on the border of NC at Kerr Lake, VA.
