Calgary, Alberta set a new daily high temperature record on Jan. 14, 2026, reaching 16.9°C and surpassing the previous record of 11.2°C from 2004. The unusually warm mid-winter weather drew people outdoors and raised local safety concerns.
Six Vancouver Island communities set new daily high-temperature records on Dec. 15, with some locations nearing 17°C despite rain and wind. Environment Canada attributes the warmth to a vigorous frontal system; temperatures are expected to cool later in the week.
