A 63-year-old heliskiing guest died after being buried in an avalanche near Lake George, Alaska. An avalanche forecaster warned that weak layers in the region’s snowpack mean dangerous slides can still be triggered even during calm weather.
An avalanche in the backcountry near Nuuk, Greenland, killed a 17-year-old man and injured two others. A search-and-rescue operation involving Greenland Police, Arctic Command, Nuuk fire services, SAR Qamutit and a helicopter was launched.

Several recent large wet slab avalanches reported throughout the Chugach are believed to be connected to a buried crust that formed around late October, she said. A warm storm system last week also weakened the snowpack because it added weight and heat.
Jeffrey Cheng, 33, died in the slide. One of his friends managed to hold on to a tree as waves of avalanche debris washed over his head. The third member of their group wasn’t caught.
