A significant flood-induced washout at milepost 315 on the Dalton Highway has closed the only road link to Alaska’s North Slope oil fields between mileposts 305 and 356, with emergency repairs and ongoing monitoring underway.

Extreme flooding on Alaska's Arctic highway in 2015 caused thaw-induced sinking in the permafrost terrain up to 3 inches deep, with the most significant effects occurring in ice-rich areas, according to a newly published study.

A culvert collapse closed the road at Mile 8 from 9 p.m. Friday until one lane reopened at 10 a.m. Sunday. The culvert was washed out by heavy snowmelt.
