The regional district implements summer water restrictions annually at the start of May, but this year it is taking the unusual step of skipping Stage 1 restrictions and heading straight for Stage 2.

The Regional District of Nanaimo has moved to Stage 3 water restrictions because of abnormally dry conditions on eastern Vancouver Island. Lawn watering is now limited to one day a week, while some areas already under Stage 4 restrictions remain unchanged.

The borough re-issued mandatory water restrictions this week amid drought conditions and as Lily Lake water levels continue to drop. In August, the borough has banned watering lawns with sprinklers. Hand-drip irrigation of vegetable and flower gardens is allowed.

Parts of southern and southwestern Ireland are now experiencing drought conditions amid an extended spell of hot, dry weather. Water restrictions and a hosepipe ban have been introduced in Dublin and nearby counties as officials warn that little rain is forecast.

Gotland is facing water shortage after a winter and spring with little rainfall, and Region Gotland is taking new steps to conserve drinking water. Measures include lowering water pressure in parts of Visby and shutting some water kiosks.
