The Far Eastern Scientific and Fishery Council (FESPC) in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, supported a possible increase in the number of fishing days for representatives of indigenous peoples in the river basin of the Anadyr estuary from the first week of July until the end of the fishery.

The total catch volume of Pacific salmon in the district was 302.4 tons. This is almost 91% of the allocated volumes for three categories of fishing - industrial, amateur and traditional for community representatives. This is 11 times less than in 2022, a "non-pink salmon" year (even years are characterized by small approaches of this type of salmon).

Cold spring and summer affected the results of salmon production in the district. Fishermen in the region caught more than three tons of salmon - this is several times less than in previous years, according to IA "Chukotka".

Experts decided that during the fishing season, red fish in the water area of the Anadyr estuary can be caught only two days a week. It was decided to introduce a large number of passing days to preserve the chum salmon population spawning in this basin.

The Regional Department of Agriculture and Food summed up the results of the northern delivery. In 2023, supplies of food and essential goods increased. In total, 33.3 thousand tons of cargo were delivered to the region. This exceeded the 2022 figures by almost half.

Due to declining salmon returns, Russia may halt commercial salmon fisheries next year to protect the species. This drastic reduction has raised concerns about the sustainability of the fisheries and the need for conservation measures. The situation is so dire that the salmon catch in 2021 was the lowest in the last 16 years, and projections for the 2024-2026 period suggest a continued downward trend.
