The car ferry between Hemsön and Strinningen outside Härnösand, Sweden has repeatedly had to deny heavy trucks due to unusually low sea levels. The low water is linked to a strong, persistent high-pressure system that pushed Baltic Sea levels to historically low values in early February.

SMHI reports that March 2026 was the warmest March ever recorded in Sweden, with the largest anomalies in Norrland—up to about 7°C above the 1961–1990 average—leading to unusually early bare ground in many areas.

The rare clubmoss known in Swedish as “mellanlummer” has been recorded for the first time in Västernorrland, in forests near Viksjö. Botanists link the find to SCA’s prescribed burns that open and rejuvenate the forest.
