Heavy rain and windy weather marked the start of summer in Alberta, causing basement flooding and cancellations of community events. The rainfall also prompted related water restrictions and flood warnings in parts of the province.

Alberta officials say invasive goldfish have been illegally released into waterways and stormwater ponds across the province, with established populations now found in more than 100 locations. The fish can outcompete native species, reproduce rapidly, and may require whole-pond chemical treatments or draining to control.

N.W.T. fire officials are warning of a "major wind event" expected in some areas of the territory on Friday, along with warm, dry conditions — significantly raising the risk of wildfire.
